Just a few years before like in 2015, the tech market of India was ruled mostly by Indian brands only like Micromax, Lava, Lyf, Intex and Xolo. But gradually when 4G launched and Chinese brands came in, they replaced Indian brands and took the market.

Now, the popular brands in the market are Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Realme. It’s also includes non-Chinese brands like Samsung and Nothing.

But why the Indian brands failed? Here’s a short overview:

1. Lazy and unsteady progress with inactive brands.

Indian brands have always been very lazy and unsteady in launching phones, accepting feedbacks and providing software updates and services. On top of that, the brands’ service centers were mostly found switched off and with unavailable parts, which forced many people to buy new phones.

But when Chinese brands came, their hardware were made so repairable that any local repair shop could fix it. Also, the availability of hardware was widespread on the e-commerce and came with steady software and app updates. Also, the prices were cheap too with unbelievable features.

2. Money-hungry and price-added products, with high profits.

Indian brands have always been looking jealously on money of people. Even to this date, when you buy an Indian phone, the profit rate is 15%-20% while Chinese brands only charge upto 5%. So, the Indian phones at ₹15,000 are of₹7,000.

Also, the overall features were mainly old. Even the latest Micromax In 2b runs Android 10 which is 4 gen old. But with Chinese brands, you get upto 4 years of software support.

3. Unexpected launch and occurrence of 4G. (Now we use 5G)

4G was like the death knell of most Indian phone brands. Most Indian brands were still manufacturing 2G in 2016 and releasing few 3G smartphones. On top of that, Jio launched 4G which ended the sale of 3G brands.

When people saw the growth of 4G network, Xiaomi also hurriedly entered India which replaced the overpowered Indian brands. One by one, other brands also entered the Indian market which left no lack of options and high benifits and features. Now the only surviving Indian brands are Micromax, Lava and Karbonn.
