Apps and services which Google wants to kill.
Google is the most popular search engine and the operating system in the world at the same time. But however, Google has some competitors which Google wants to take place of them. Here’s some of them.
1. Zoom
During the Covid-19 pandemic period, Zoom has been the most popular application used for online classes, office meetings and work-from-home practices.
Zoom had claimed nearly a million dollars from the pandemic. Google could not accept this so they launched Google Meet. While developing this app, Google developers coded the instructions from homes.
After a short time, Google Meet successfully surpassed Zoom but it was again forgotten when Zoom fixed their major problems and added interactive features.
2. Facebook and Instagram
Before 2016, about half of the smartphone market was occupied by iOS and Android. In America, the popular social media apps were YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
It was the point when Google thought the plan to kill Facebook and Instagram. In Android 5 (Lollipop), they pre-installed Google+ in their devices.
Google also automatically created a Google+ account for existing Android users. So,there was no login needed. When Google+ was launched, people thought it will just end Facebook’s popularity.
But things did not go as planned. Google+ was not used as people did Facebook and Instagram. In Android 10, Google completely removed Google+ from Play Store. But Google didn’t stop there. They still launched Google Chat as an alternative to WhatsApp but it is just abondaned in Play Store like Skype.
3. iOS
Apple is Android’s biggest competitor. Apple has always tried to make unique features that Android cannot make.
In 2023, Google and European Union (EU) finally managed Apple to upgrade my RCS and use USB-C in their phones. Even though this may look simple, Google tried multiple times to force Apple to make communication between iPhones and Android phones easier became about 80% teenagers in America use iPhones.
Google has also copied several things from Apple like the SIM card tray, no charger in the box and Google Assistant.
4. ChatGPT
ChatGPT, the most popular and powerful AI model in the world, is also in competition with Google.
Recently, Google launched Google Bard, an AI language model developed by Google with the help of GeminiAI. Google refused to take help from OpenAI because they knew it would be common among everyone.
The competition between Google Bard and Microsoft’s BingAI or Copilot forces GeminiAI to compete with OpenAI.
Also, Google announced to launch Gemini, the most powerful AI language model by Google by the end of 2023. This shows how much depended Google is on GeminiAI.
5. Microsoft PowerPoint
Whenever we talk or create presentations, we use PowerPoint. PowerPoint became so much popular after its launch that book publishers began writing the chapter name as “PowerPoint” instead of “Presentation software”.
But also, to defeat PowerPoint, Google launched Google Sheets, a friendly alternative to PowerPoint. Google made this available in smartphones, TVs and even tablets.
