We all know about Redmi smartphones, which is a part of Xiaomi Inc. But in the recent few months, it has been found that many smartphones in the market are exported from China.

There is an estimate of about 23% smartphones exported from China are running edited MIUI hacked by developers. So, your information is directly sent to those hackers.

But don’t worry. Here’s how to identify if your software is fake. Please read the full article because Xiaomi India and Xiaomi Europe have reportedly given these info.

See, the first way to tell is to check the version number. It must contain MI in it.

For MIUI 13 or older OSes, they are not breached ROMs so, you’re good to go.

But from MIUI 14 onwards, Xiaomi is unable to find out the imposters. So, this is common with newer devices.

To find if your Xiaomi smartphone is hacked, go to https://mifirmware.com/xiaomi-software-update/ and enter your device model.

Then, go to Settings > About Phone and check the MIUI version is same with the one in the website.

For some users who don’t update their phones may differ. In that case, I highly recommend to update your phone if an update appears.

If you don’t get the same update as in the link, you can also download the ZIP update file from the browser. If it’s launched like 1 month ago, wait until your phone recieves the update.

Another way to tell is also in Settings. Open your phone’s Settings > Passwords & security > Privacy > Enroll in User Experience Programme and turn it off.

This will stop forwarding your personal data to Xiaomi headquarters. It was officially launched by Android back in 2012 to collect intel about glitches, bugs, hackers and scams.
