The popular tech brand, Xiaomi, has a secret that Xiaomi kept with themselves for a long time. But now, the secret is out, and MIUI users must be aware of this.

This virus is actually a spyware named Mintnav. When you open Chrome, you can see a webpage is loaded instead of Chrome’s default homescreen. This is where you are getting spied.

The Mintnav spyware

The Mintnav page looks like this. Instead of searching in the Address bar at top, many people simply search it in the websites search box.

When you search using it, your searches, personalization and IP address get forwarded to them. Even if you open a URL from another app, it opens in Chrome which means your transaction details are visible to them.

Well, no third-party developers can do this to a large number of devices. Which means Xiaomi pre-installed this with the ROM.

Your transactions, CVVs, browsing history and passwords are visible to Mintnav. Till now, there are no reports of leaks but Mintnav is still dangerous because it has no certificate.

How to delete this spyware?

Well, there’s no way you can delete it. It’s a part of system storage or non-removable.

But you can get rid of it by opening Chrome > Three dots > Settings > Homepage.

From there, select “Chrome’s homepage” and erase the address below it.

It can also be deleted by dangerous methods. You can Root your device and delete the file, or simply connect your device to computer and use Google to delete the file from ROM.

But the best way is to leave Chrome and use any other web browser.

The latest Redmi phones come with Opera Browser. Just change your default browser to Opera.

For non-Indian users, select your default browser as Mi Browser (pre-installed).

There’s a good chance this works with HyperOS too. But because it’s too early and HyperOS is not completely rolled out, we need to wait.

This information was first found on Instagram. Then it spread to different places by YouTubers.
