Google and RBI are deleting inactive Google accounts and UPI IDs on 31 January, 2024. Your account at risk?
Yes, you heard it right. To protect and secure the data and information of users, Google has decided to delete unused Google accounts inactive for last 2 years.
This is not a big trouble for most of the Android users because on average, we literally need a Google account to do several tasks.
But there are some accounts that you have which you need for logins. How to prevent account from deleting?
- Watch a YouTube video
- Do 5 Google searches
- If you don’t have access to Google or YouTube, try logging in your account in a third-party website (not recommended)
Like this, RBI is also removing logged in UPI accounts unused for 1 year. Any UPI ID kept inactive will be deleted.
What are UPI IDs?
These include banking apps which you use like Google Pay, Phonepe or Paytm. This also includes WhatsApp Payments and other stuff.
It is an important step taken by the Government of India jointly with Reserve Bank of India because hacks and leaks in India have increased by 17%.
Even though it’s a small percentage, it’s still like 10K hackers. So, use your UPI accounts wisely.
How to prevent your UPI account from deletion?
It’s simple. Just use your UPI app to do a transaction of minimum ₹1. This includes money transfer, recharges, electricity bills and even Google Play balance.
Another important update :
If you have an Android device running Android 4, 5 or 6, Google Pay will be permanently removed. So, it’s better to software update your phone or upgrade to a new one.
