Here’s how to make your phone live without problems for 5 years.
In my last article How smartphone brands force you to buy a new phone after 2 years., I showed how cruel and rude brands and OSes can be. But don’t worry. I came up with your solution.
1. Don’t do software updates.
We all receive software updates on our phones. But after 2–3 years, manufacturers stop giving software updates and your phone no longer supports new apps.
This is actually done by Android. Their attempt in 2019 made Google apps unusable in Android versions below Android 4. This was influenced by Apple. Apple sent a software update to old iPhones which caused them to lag.
But Apple said this was to preserve battery life. But remember software cannot fix hardware problems.
In December, 2023, Xiaomi released an update for Redmi 12 and Poco M6 Pro to support VoNR for Jio users. But afterwards, this was found fake as there was no difference in network speed.
2. Don’t charge your phone overnight or until it reaches 100%.
This is actually a very popular trick but most people disagree, which included me. But after 1 year, if your phone is at 50%, it would show 40%.
Like this, the battery indicator is also a liar. Also, if your phone is fully charged at 100%, it would show 79% so that you overcharge it and cause problems with the lithium battery.
So, if your phone is draining battery so quickly, it is not a headache at all.
You cannot check the actual battery % after 1 year. Most people Root their phones or use third-party apps but they are mostly illegal.
3. Don’t use third-party or pre-installed themes.
You might get notifications from your Themes app about trending or cool themes or ringtones. But believe me they put a much more pressure on your processor to process the same theme every time.
The default theme which you got pre-installed, is the best. Don’t try any more Themes app. Even changing the wallpaper puts pressures on your smartphone. This is same with Dark mode, Reading mode, etc.
4. Don’t play games.
It must have happened with every gamer that your phone lagged or turned off while gaming. Gaming is furthermost the worst way to put your phone at death.
Games like Minecraft, Granny, Free Fire and Among Us heat up the phone too much which can cause explosion. Playing games in browser are safe as they don’t retain the past data.
5. Turn off WiFi scanning and Bluetooth scanning always.
Your phone actually always looks for password-less WiFi networks available. But in this modern world, open WiFi networks no longer exist anywhere. So, you’re uselessly wasting battery.
To turn off this feature, follow the steps :
For Xiaomi users, go to Settings > Location > Location Services and toggle WiFi scanning and Bluetooth scanning off.
For Oppo users, go to Settings > WiFi > Scanning always available and turn it off.
The same goes for Bluetooth.
For Apple phones, there’s no way except throwing your phone until it dies.
